Local Philanthropy & Service

In addition to raising money and awareness for arthritis and related diseases, our sisters recognize the importance of giving back in many other ways.

Philanthropy and service are at the core of who we are as AOIIs, and it is something that we hold especially near to our hearts.  AOII was founded on a promise to serve not only one another, but the greater community as well.  We exhibit our commitment to servant leadership through our participation in a project that raises funds for AOII’s international philanthropy, arthritis research and the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization.

Strike Out Arthritis

Our annual spring philanthropy is Strike Out Arthritis.  For the past two years, we hosted a dodge ball tournament to raise money for arthritis research.  Women in our chapter have been directly impacted by arthritis, so this annual event is something that we really look forward to hosting.  More than just a fun event, this is a time for us all to come together and rally behind a cause we truly believe in.

On an international level, Alpha Omicron Pi and the Arthritis Foundation have a partnership with the MLB.  In 2014, AOII Fraternity held Strike Out Arthritis events with 19 major league teams, and over 10 events are scheduled or in the works for the 2015 season.

Sisters for Soldiers

During the fall we host Sisters for Soldiers, a campaign to recognize and provide assistance to our soldiers serving overseas.  In this campus-wide event students are able to write letters to the soldiers and provide donations such as toothpaste, canned goods and soap to be boxed up and sent to the troops.
